It’s oh so quiet …

Conor and Eileen have gone back to Old Mother Oirland. I’m back to Normal Life, which involves doing laundry and sleeping in late. Oh, and spending most of my waking hours catching up on homework in Espresso Royale, with their eclectic soundtrack and delicious vanilla chip muffins and actual furniture.

We had a great few days, though. Finally got to doing all the Boston touristy stuff like the aquarium, the JFK museum, the Freedom Trail (can’t! go! on! much! longer!) and the aforementioned Fenway Park outing. Plus Conor and I went down to Noo Yoik for a few days and met up with Sinead and Brendan (or Brenead, to give them their celebrity couple portmanteau). We went to Ellis Island, Empire State, Hard Rock Cafe, World Financial Centre etc. A grand time was had by all. I’ll post pictures soon.

Oh, and the fabulous sibs brought me stuff, like William Trevor short stories and Plain White Ts CDs and Kenneth Branagh’s Hamlet on DVD, which I’ve been wanting for the last five years. There are lovely special features and a commentary. KB’s impression of John Gielgud is almost as funny as Billy Crystal’s impression of KB.

Think I might go watch the baseball in the Joshua Tree tonight. Game 2 of the Red Sox vs the Cleveland Injuns. I’m so addicted to baseball after so little exposure it’s pathetic. Playing hurling with Conor on Boston Common has spurred me into some kind of athletic restlessness. I want to play sports again. Not much opportunity for hurling here and I’d most likely suck at baseball, so I might give badminton a try. I loved it in school and they provide the rackets (racquets?) so it’s all good.

Did you watch the game? 5 hours of baseball, 7 runs in the top of the 11th. Oh, dear. Bostonites probably aren’t too happy at the moment. ;)

Renee: Yep, I watched it dutifully. ;) Yes, the Sox kind of came apart didn’t they? Bostonites are a bit disgusted – but happy that Manny Ramirez now has the record for most post-season home runs. :D

Speils: I want to be a godfather too. Do I get to put dead horses in people’s beds? And grant favours at my daughter’s wedding? Yeah, hope Red Sox win tomorrow. Might have to go to the pub again for that!

Starstruck: Oh you should! It’s fab out here. :) Not in winter though. It’s starting to get nippy now and I don’t like it.

Know what you mean about the quietness, it’s the same here in Cardiff. I seem to spend a lot of time on my own! Not that that’s a bad thing of course, but I’m very much looking forward to Katrina coming over so I’ll have an excuse to go to Cardiff Castle and the Impressionist museum etc etc.

Those vanilla chip muffins sound yummy. :-)

Andrea: They are yummy! We don’t have desks or anything in our apartment so I always go into the cafe to do work, which inevitably leads to the buying of muffins. I’ll be so poor and obese when you see me next. ;) I get what you mean about sibling visits – I kept meaning to get out and sightsee the first few weeks we were here, but I lacked motivation. Visitors sort of spur you into tourist mode.

Sinead: Oh come on, it’s fab! And it rhymes with grenade … think of the limericks! :)

I’m sort’ve the opposite, I think I might be losing weight, if my belt notches are any indication! Since getting the braces off, I have to wear a retainer pretty much 24/7 and I have to go to the bother of taking it out every time I eat or drink, (which has a certain ick factor, especially in public) so I’m tending to avoid snackery. Hee, we’ll be a pretty sight standing side by side next time we meet. Like a number 10. :-)
